How to get in touch with me

As always I welcome comments, suggestions, any feedback or ideas from anyone willing to share. You can email me at mai (at) containssulfites (dot) com.

Who I am and why I blog

My name is Mai and I am an aspiring winemaker. Presently, I am working on my Master of Oenology at the University of Adelaide. Previously, I worked for over 6 years as a software engineer and also worked part-time wine retail. In 2009, I became a Certified Specialist of Wine. I am still learning as much about wine as I can, and perhaps someday I will be able make a living working where my passions flow. This blog is an account of my wine-related adventures as well as an outlet for my thoughts about topics related to food and wine. This is also an exercise for me to expand my wine vocabulary and develop my wine knowledge. I hope to explore wines from all regions, recipes with wine pairings, wine events and excursions, the list goes on. I hope you find my blog entertaining as well as educational and you keep me in your RSS hearts. I appreciate all feedback. I’m still learning the ropes, so please let me know what you think.

About the photography

I am presently taking all the photos on the blog. Mostly with my Nokia N900 phone. Unless otherwise noted, the photographs taken before July 2010 were taken by my illustrious boyfriend Kevin Cartwright. More of his work can be found at kevincartwright.com.

One more thing …

Please drink responsibly. There are no excuses.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy!

  1. I graduated from the MS of Oenology program back in November of 2009. I had been a winemaker for about 10 years prior to my going back to school. I read your blog, and it very closely mirrored my own rationale behind pursuing my MS at Adelaide.

If you have any questions about the program or what you should be prepared for, let me know. You are in for one hell of a ride!

    Good Luck,

    • Thanks for reading Tim! Everyone in the class is fantastic, and I’m heartened to see graduates doing notable things out there. My only nervousness is whether I will be able to find employment to get experience in many of the winemaking regions I’ve always admired. I’m hearing from people that work visas to the EU are hard to come by, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there! Cheers, Mai

  2. So over a tear down the road, the MS from Adelaide, combined with 10 yeas of winemaking, has allowed me to TEACH winemaking! I hope your experience has gone well!
